paco metro station muralThe late Paco de Lucia took flamenco music down many different roads during his musical career–and he will continue to do so, thanks to plans to dedicate a Madrid metro station to the celebrated Spanish guitarist.

The second stop on the Line 9 extension of the Mirasierra Station will open next spring as the Paco de Lucia Station, and feature a 300-meter mural of De Lucia, who died at age 66 last February.

Under the coordination of the Madrid Street Project, the mural is being painted by street artists Okuda and Rosh333, who have created similarly grand works in such cities as New York, Tokyo, Johannesburg and Rio de Janeiro. The Paco de Lucia Station mural will be titled Between Two Universes, a nod to the guitarist’s 1975 album Between Two Waters.
