As promised, we’re going to devote our Sunday postings for the next couple of to the incredible Romero family: together, in duos, solo, whatever sounds good! What spurred my recent fascination is the new Walter Aaron Clark biography Los Romeros: Royal Family of the Spanish Guitar, new from the University of Illinois Press; a fantastic book I highly recommend!
So, let’s get this party started with a video of Pepe Romero masterfully playing two parts of one of the best-known pieces written by his father, Celedonio (1913–1996), Suite Andalucia, which was dedicated to Pepe (and also recorded in full by another of Celedonio’s sons, Angel). Not sure what year this performance is from. —Blair Jackson
