Anton Baranov Wins Falletta Concerto Competition

Congratulations to Russian guitarist Anton Baranov for his victory at the seventh biennial JoAnn Falletta International Guitar Concerto Competition, which wrapped up at Kleinhans Music Hall in  Buffalo, New York, on June 11. The other two finalists, who also had the opportunity to play with the renowned Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra, were Andras Czaki of Hungary and American Alec Holcomb. Baranov’s other high-profile win in recent years was in the 2013 Guitar Foundation of America competition. He is a 2010 graduate of the St. Petersburg State Rimsky-Korsakov Conservatory and currently teaches guitar there.

Baranov took the top honors at the Falletta after performing Manuel Ponce’s Concierto del Sur. he also won the competition’s Audience Favorite and Musicians’ Choice awards.
