On May 8, 1829 (that’s 189 years ago), the great Italian guitarist and composer Mauro Giuliani passed away at the age 48 in Naples, Italy. We celebrate one of the guitar’s first geniuses with this exceptional version of his Grande Ouverture, Op. 61 (1809) performed with élan and grace by Ana Vidovic.
Incidentally, an English translation of the latest book about Giuliani, written by descendant Nicola Giuliani (who also runs the Casa Museo Mauro Giuliani in Bisceglie, in southern Italy), is due to be released in July. We’ll have more on that when it arrives!
