If you read the interview with the fine Bulgarian guitarist/composer Atanas Ourkouzounov in the Fall 2018 issue of Classical Guitar, and which we posted online a week ago, you know that since 2001 he has often played in a duet with his Japanese flautist wife Mie Ogura. Here, the two of them tackle a fabulous Beatles classic from the group’s landmark 1966 album, Revolver: Eleanor Rigby, primarily written by Paul McCartney (though credited to both McCartney and John Lennon, as were all their songs for The Beatles). The arrangement is quite jazzy and open—credit there goes to a version by jazz pianist Chick Corea and jazz vibraphonist Gary Burton, though Atanas and Mie have put their own stamp on it with their own improvisations. Great stuff! —Blair Jackson
