We wanted to put in a good word for this summer’s two-week guitar program at Le Domaine Forget de Charlevoix in the tiny but scenic French Canadian municipality of Saint-Irénée, Quebec, about 75 miles northeast of Quebec City on the beautiful, wide St. Lawrence River. The guitar course, which takes place June 30 to July 13, 2019, is one of 12 programs held there each summer as part of the International Academy of Music and Dance, which also includes dedicated programs in everything from brass to woodwinds to voice to dance, and more. From all reports, it’s an amazingly stimulating creative environment.
The Guitar Academy must be considered among the best short-term programs for the instrument in North America, and always features an impressive roster of top professional players as instructors. This year is no exception: Faculty members include Jason Vieaux, Solo Duo (that’s Lorenzo Micheli and Matteo Mela), Bruce Holzman, Jérôme Ducharme, and Patrick Roux. The program includes master classes, individual instruction, technical workshops, ensemble work—and two voluntary competitions for ages 17 and younger and 18+.
The application deadline is April 1!
