Gretchen Menn Plays Leo Brouwer’s ‘Etude No. 6‘ on a Custom Santa Cruz PJ Parlor Guitar

Have you heard the music of Leo Brouwer played on a steel-string guitar? Don’t be surprised to hear classically-schooled rocker Gretchen Menn performing on this custom 2000 Santa Cruz PJ from Acoustic Guitar magazine’s 10th Anniversary Collection. In celebration of the magazine’s 30th anniversary in 2020, we’re putting our collection up for auction from April 20 through May 10, giving you the opportunity to bid on a piece of guitar history and support guitar education at the same time.

50% of the net proceeds of this auction will be donated to the Bill Collings Memorial Fund in support of guitar education in public schools and public programs. Plus, we’ll contribute $5 to the Collings Fund in the name of every bidder, whether they win at auction or not.

The estimated value range for the Santa Cruz PJ is $9,200 to $13,800. What makes it special? “We took the design of guitars from the 1890s and early 1900s and made a modern instrument,” says Santa Cruz’s Richard Hoover. “We also included attributes such as an adjustable truss rod, and all we’ve learned in the last 100 years of guitar making.”
