Not to be confused with the well-known Paraguayan composer/guitarist AugustÍn Barrios, Ángel Barrios (1882–1964) was a Spanish composer of operas, chamber music, zarzuelas, and pieces for guitar and piano, some of which have found their way into the modern repertoire. Here, from a clip shot at Guitar Salon International in Santa Monica, California, in 2017, Pepe Romero plays a short movement from Barrios’ Arroyos de la Alhambra on an Edmund Blochinger guitar boasting a pine top made from wood that is more than 500 years old.
