Spring Guitar Fest Season in Full Swing

April is right around the corner, so we wanted to remind you all of a few significant classical-guitar festivals and competitions that are imminent, if you happen to be in the area where any of them take place (or are looking for a classical guitar-related travel opportunity in the very near future).

The Philadelphia Classical Guitar Festival, at the Trinity Center for Urban Life April 9–10, features concerts by Antigoni Goni (pictured above), Matthew Palmer, and guitar-and-pianoforte Duo Firenze, plus a full day of events including over 100 student recitals, the Philadelphia Classical Guitar Society’s competition finals, workshops, a large vendor fair, a master class by Ms Goni, and a recital by the 2o15 competition winner, Alec Holcomb. The following week, April 13–17, a little farther north, in New York, is the Long Island Guitar Festival, which also has a competition, master classes, and a very impressive concert lineup, including Andrew York, Berta Rojas, David Starobin, lutenist Ronn McFarlane, an artist featured in the Spring 2016 issue of Classical Guitar, Hilary Field, and several others.

That same weekend, April 13–17, the Guitar Society of Toronto, is putting on its annual Toronto Guitar Weekend, with master classes, a luthier and vendor fair, lectures, open mic. Artists include Brazilians Carlos Barbosa-Lima (below) and Celso Machado, and Steve Cowan.
