Leave to a phenomenal guitarist/arranger like Carlos Barbosa-Lima to work up a splendid new version of the oft-covered early 1950s Brazilian pop number “Delicado,” penned by Waldir Azevedo (1923–1980), initially as an instrumental (Azavedo played a wicked cavaquinho, the small four-string popular in South American folk music), but which by 1952 had acquired lyrics by Jack Lawrence, leading to several hit vocal versions. In this new video, Barbosa-Lima is joined in the studio by his long-time duo partner Larry Del Casale and percussionist Duduka Da Fonseca (multitracked on a host of shakers and such) for a lively outing. Those are Prenkert guitars. (You can read Classical Guitar‘s interview with Barbosa-Lima and Del Casale from the Fall 2016 issue here.)
