Video Pick of the Week: Jan Depreter Plays His Own ‘The Isle of Skye’

The Isle of Skye is a rugged and beautiful island off the west coast of Scotland, dotted with picturesque villages, rolling hills, craggy mountains, and even a few old castles. Its breathtaking landscape (and history) have inspired many a writer and musician, including the composer and player of this week’s “Pick”: the great Belgian guitarist Jan Depreter. He originally recorded the piece on his 2012 album Wit.  It’s a delightful evocation of the Scottish Highlands, fun to listen to and clearly fun to play, too! It was published a few years ago in a book of Depreter’s compositions called Northern Lights.  —Blair Jackson
