Video Pick of the Week: Katrin Endrikat Plays the Sarabande from Bach’s Sixth Cello Suite

I’m not sure I’ve ever encountered a Bach sarabande that didn’t move me. They are reliably profound and emotional, and often beautifully sad—or just beautiful. I find the six from Bach’s Cello Suites particularly deep and inspiring—truly soul-stirring. This week’s Video Pick is a lovely performance of the Sarabande from the Sixth Cello Suite, interpreted by the fine German guitarist Katrin Endrikat, whose playing we have featured here a few times through the years. Katrin studied with Thomas Kirchhoff and Dale Kavenagh at the Hochschule für Musik Detmold to obtain her bachelor’s degree, and later earned her master’s from Yale after studying with Ben Verdery. She has traveled the world playing and teaching, and currently resides in Buenos Aires, Argentina, with her partner Jonas Belina and their incredibly cute two-and-a-half-year-old daughter, Célestine. —Blair Jackson
