I had the pleasure of seeing Chinese guitarist Liying Zhu perform during the semifinals of the International Concert Artist Competition at the Guitar Foundation of America (GFA) convention in Miami last week (June 20), and then coincidentally sitting next to her at that night’s wonderful Brasil Guitar Duo concert. She’s a talented and delightful young woman!
Here, in celebration of the great French composer/guitarist Napoléon Coste‘s 214th birthday (June 27), we present an excellent video of Ms Zhu playing Coste’s Rondeau de Concert, Op. 12, which he wrote ca. 1840 and dedicated to one of his pupils, a woman named Clarisse Lelorin. —Blair Jackson
