Watch Elena Papandreou Play Roland Dyens’ ‘Clown Down (Gismonti au cirque)’

One of many pieces I encountered for the first time at the recent GFA was Roland Dyens’ striking and highly rhythmic Clown Down (Gismonti au cirque), which was played in the finals by winning guitarist Raphaël Feuillatre. It’s the last movement of Dyens’ three-part piece called Triaela, which was dedicated to the wonderful guitarist Elena Papandreou, who recorded it on her 2005 album Elena Papandreou Plays Roland Dyens. She also played the entire Triaela at GFA this year, so I’m posting this video from a performance a few years ago. Good stuff! —Blair Jackson
