Master guitarist Kazuhito Yamashita will kick off the San Francisco-based Omni Foundation for the Performing Arts’ 35th season with a bang: On Saturday October 10, 2015, at beautiful and acoustically wondrous St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in SF, he’ll be performing the complete J.S. Bach Cello Suites over the course of two concerts, one at 2:30 p.m. (Suites 1-3) and the other at 7:30 p.m. (Suites 4-6). This is indeed a rare and special opportunity to bathe yourself in Bach and to fully appreciate the genius of these landmark pieces, performed on guitar by a true virtuoso.

Nagasaki-born Yamashita was a child prodigy who first gained widespread recognition in Japan when he won the Kyushu Guitar Competition in 1972 at the age of 12. Four years later he took the top honors in the Tokyo International Guitar Competition; then, still just 16, he made his first tour of Europe, where he was rapturously received as he won such prestigious competitions as the Ramirez Guitar Competition in Spain and the Concorso Internazionale Chitarra Classica in Italy, and the Concours International de Guitare in France. Since then, he has toured internationally and also made many recordings covering a vast array of styles and composers, from Bach to Fernando Sor to Joaquin Rodrigo.
