We’ve traveled from the West Coast to Baltimore this weekend to attend the Guitar Society Summit at the Peabody Conservatory of the Johns Hopkins University. It’s been a fun and fascinating conference and I’ll have a lot more to say about it in the forthcoming Winter 2018 issue of Classical Guitar, out in a few weeks.

But for now let’s enjoy a performance by the great Manuel Barrueco, who teaches at Peabody, and is also the artistic advisor of the Baltimore Classical Guitar Society, hosts of this weekend’s activities, which were made possible by the generous support of the Augustine Foundation and Tonebase, among others. Here, the maestro plays Sor’s famous Mozart Variations—coincidentally played at the Saturday evening concert at the conference by one of Barrueco’s gifted students, 18-year-old Junhong Kuang.
